Devastation but we continue on as failure is only a mistake to learn from!

You know you have a mistake once, you think you wouldn't be fooled again. However, another lesson about the internet I thought I had learned was never be dependent on others for your work!

Back in 2016, there was a great video player way ahead of anything in terms of its features and it worked great.  So, every video I did, I used this player on my blog posts.  Being a video lover, I had lots of videos when I heard on the provider's webinar that they were thinking of going into another software market.  So, I realized they would be too busy to update my video player so I cancelled the yearly fee.  This action left me with code all over my posts and no videos!  Bad move!

Now, I tried out this Facebook plugin which would automatically upload your Facebook Lives to your website. It worked great for several years. The video would post on my blog as a post with a "subscribe to see my Facebook posts." I used that software for two years. Then I realized that if I deleted the plugin it would remove all the video posts so I would only have a subscribe button. So, I turned the plugin back on and I used it for another two years.

I didn't even think of the consequences when Facebook said that they were tired of having our Facebook Lives on their servers in April so remove those that you wanted to keep!

NOW, all my blog posts had "Video not available" on each post rendering of no use to anyone who came by my posts.

I HAVE JUST DELETED 649 post from my blog. Google will not like all those missing links to missing posts but I couldn't do redirects for that many posts.

So, I will be blogging posts every day to try to replace the content I had to delete just to make Google happy!

TWO RULES FOR YOU:

  1. Before you buy any software, ask yourself is this a large enough company that they will still be around in 5 years?
  2. NEVER be dependent on OTHERS whether it is other BLOGS or PLATFORMS or SOCIAL MEDIA Companies FOR YOUR SUCCESS!
  3. A New one for me is try to have a Call to Action on all your posts  🙂
  4. VISIBILITY IS KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS!
