Breaking News on Change to Facebook that you need to know

A Mistake to Avoid if you want to share your Content on Facebook.

It seems like “fast” never quite rates “fast enough!” When it comes to facebook api any Facebook marketer will tell you that Facebook can change the API quickly to make it relevant to keep people on Facebook Well, let me do my part to help speed things up for you by giving you this facebook api article to help you make sure you share your content correctly to keep it engaging for your fans.

Facebook is deprecating the Graph API v. 2.3 on July 10, 2017 to try to combat FAKE NEWS! The new Graph v 2.9 as they say ” Graph API version 2.9 includes a 90 day deprecation of the ability to edit previews attached to link posts.”

What does that mean to you as a marketer? If you have an automatic Facebook posting software, after July 10th, 2017, you can not change the image that is in your blog post before you send it to Facebook. The Facebook Graph API will only pick up the “Featured Image” on your post (so hopefully you have one).

Now, myself, I do a lot of video posts (vlogs) and the posts don’t have an image because I want my visitor to watch the vlog. So, previously, i would add an image to my post relevant to the video when I previewed and set up my posts inside my posting software.

According to Facebook ” We’re working to find other solutions that allow publishers to share customized content on our platform, and we will have more to share in the coming weeks.” Until then if you are posting to Facebook you had better make sure your “Featured Image” is in blog post.

As with anything, this will change and adapt over time. But, from my direct, day-to-day facebook api experience, smart Facebook marketers – regardless of your current situation – will take heed and apply the information in this article immediately.

Four key strategies for promoting your podcast

Solopreneur Success Strategies on itunes

A podcast is a great way to build your audience and awareness for your business.  When you start a podcast, it only required a good microphone, audio recording software and someplace to host your audios so you can broadcast to thousands of podcast directories.

The first thing to do is to know what kind of messages and stories your audience wants to hear. So, get to know who is your audience first!  Then they will want to download and listen to your podcast because you have value for them to take the time and listen to your broadcast.

Now, this is a brief article about four strategies to promote your podcast once you know you have a podcast topic your customers want to listen to.

Once you have recorded some podcast recordings and uploaded them to your podcast hosting and got approved to be shown on various podcast directories like iTunes and Soundcloud, it is time to promote the podcast!

You will have links for the podcast show on the various directories so make a list of them as you will be promoting your show on social media, website and everywhere you are messaging.

Now, the simple answer is you have four key strategies to promote your podcast.

  1. Networking – Tell everyone you know and contact influencers in your industry to see if they want to be interviewed on your show so they will mention your show.
  2. Put yourself out there – Put your podcast show on website with its own link so people who come to the page can see what you are podcasting about and subscribe. Send out an email to your subscribers every time you upload a new podcast and tell them to share it if they like it. Share your new podcast episode out onto social media. Using IFTTT you can upload your podcast episode onto Twitter and Facebook and other social media platforms.
  3. Referrals – Get your audience who are subscribing to share it out onto their social media for others to listen. You can offer incentives such as giveaways or prizes for their sharing.
  4. Email list – Always be mentioning on podcast how to subscribe to get more information on your email list. Email subscribers will become avid fans and share the podcast to others if they find it of value.

As some senators found out recently when they did a Facebook Live, you have no control over how people react!

The protest began with just Sen. Cory Booker and U.S. Rep. John Lewis talking live on Facebook, discussing what the Senate health care bill means for all Americans.

Before he knew it, a crowd was gathering around five senators, asking questions and telling stories about their experiences with health care.

However, livestreaming can be an asset to your business if you know your audience.

When you share your expertise live, people are so much more likely to take you at your word. People will love seeing you, interacting with you and getting personal with you.  But, even when you don’t have a huge turnout for live events, you can repurpose the event to help grow your captive audience.

Large Corporations know the potential of livestream broadcasting and they are willing to invest in the new technology.

New Trends in Video Marketing that go beyond simple videos

If your business doesn’t have video marketing in your plan, it is time to get that video camera out and start producing some video!

New trends in video are coming out with augmented reality, virtual reality  and 360 video that if you don’t even know what those terms mean, your business marketing plan may not be keeping in with the trends. So to get up to date here are the terms defined in terms of your reality!

Virtual Reality  is a computer created environment which looks real when the  person puts on  VR headgear and sensor activating gloves to “see” it within the headgear area.

Augmented Reality is the addition of a computer generated environment onto the person’s real world. Right now the person sees the augmented reality of  Pokemon Go within the smartphone which relays view of person’s environment.

360 video is the creation of  recordings of a real-world panorama, where the view in every direction is recorded at the same time, shot using an omnidirectional camera or a collection of cameras and a person can pan through the video like being there.

Virtual Reality gear is coming down in price quickly which means the market demand will increase as more companies develop virtual and augmented reality games, educational and instructional programs.

At the Windows 10 event in New York this week, Microsoft kicked off the third-party set of VR headsets coming from Dell, HP, Acer and Asus, starting in the $299 price range from Virtual/Augmented Reality Go Mainstream

Now this is exciting and go check out the awesome Augmented Candy ghost that Rich Fiore created on his own time to scare the children in his neighbourhood!  What other ways could a business use augmented reality in their business?

Rich Fiore used Unity, a community game engine and augmented reality platform Vuforia to transform his house in the Chicago suburbs into a standalone mobile game for Android. The house is “augmented” with a ghost made of ~ lost and evil ~ forgotten candy. A tin flower decoration on the porch triggers the game.

“I will have a few extra Android devices on Halloween for the trick-or- treaters to use,” Fiore says, explaining how they’ll be able to view the digital presentation.

Now there are 360 video cameras now coming down in price for any business to buy. For less than $500, you can create a 360 panorama to engage the visitors so check them out 360 cameras However, you can even get an app for an iphone right now called Splash that creates a 360 video panorama of your environment with sound!

360 video tour is a natural way for a visitor to interact with a real estate proposed new apartment development such that you feel like you are standing in the middle of the apartment even before it is built!  Just check out this virtual 360 tour of Sky Residence in Manila Philipines at http://www.zipmatch.com/condominium/sky-residence
According to Ryan Anderson if a marketer is being an early adopter of 360 video means you’re going to understand the language before the public does. Marketers can use that language to connect with intimacy and empathy.

Always new Filters and Apps for your smartphone so keep up to date in your business

There are thousands of apps on iTunes that you can download to change and filter and enhance your video.  In order to keep people interested, the social media platforms are finding new ways for them to play with video. For Halloween,  Facebook has introduced the Halloween mask to put on your face while you are doing a Facebook Live video. Now, I’m not sure that a mask will improve your authority or credibility as an expert but it may be fun to use them occasionally.

The tool works in pretty much the same way as Snapchat’s popular ‘Lenses’ tool, using facial recognition to virtually attach the mask to your face within your video.

Business Beware and Be Flexible

Due to the stiff competition of new social media platforms attracting new clients with the established ones like Facebook and Twitter, the marketing plan can change quickly when a social media platform closes like Vine.

Twitter will shutter Vine, the seven-second looping video social platform it purchased in 2012, in the coming months.

The move is likely a bid to appease Wall Street and make a buyout more appealing, but also makes sense considering more than half of the platform’s top 9,725 accounts had either deleted their profiles or not posted any content since the start of 2016.

In summary,

Video is here to stay.

Video needs to be in your marketing plan for your business.

Video will go beyond the video camera into VR, AR and 360 video.

Keep up to date on what is trending in video.

Have fun with video but don’t depend on one social media platform for your marketing plan!
